CPS (characters per second) measures reading speed. Subtitles with very high CPS are too fast to read comfortably. Most standards recommend staying under 15-20 CPS. The statistics tool reports both average and maximum CPS.

The tool analyzes the ratio of CJK characters (Chinese hanzi, Japanese kana, Korean hangul) to Latin characters to estimate the dominant language. This is a heuristic and may not be perfect for mixed-language files.
For CJK (Chinese, Japanese, Korean) text, each character is counted as a word since there are no spaces. For Latin scripts, words are split by whitespace. The tool detects the dominant script automatically.
