Free Online STL to ASS Converter
Our STL to ASS converter reads Spruce Subtitle text input and produces a basic Advanced SubStation Alpha document entirely in your browser. Source STL timing is converted to ASS H:MM:SS.cc timing. STL pipe separators become newlines and bracketed inline tags are removed. The generated ASS has a single Default style rather than mapping source formatting. The conversion runs client-side, so your subtitle files are never uploaded to a server.
Input Format
STLSTL (Spruce Subtitle) is a text-based subtitle format used in DVD authoring and some broadcast workflows. Each entry uses comma-separated start and end timecodes followed by the subtitle text, with the pipe character (|) denoting line breaks. This text STL variant is distinct from the binary EBU STL broadcast format.
Output Format
ASSASS (Advanced SubStation Alpha v4+) is a styled subtitle format with [Script Info], [V4+ Styles], and [Events] sections. ASS supports per-character styling via override tags, fonts, colors, alpha transparency, outlines, shadows, blur, screen positioning, vector drawing, and karaoke timing. Timing uses centisecond precision (H:MM:SS.cc).
